Kiteboarding Lessons
Kiteboarding is a way of life, so the answers you are looking for can not be found in a text book or a “how to” video. We want to help you find your style. This sport is as innovative as its participants. We can help you break into a young and emerging sport that is just beginning to step out into main stream extreme sports. Kiteboarding is the fastest growing water sport in the world, and for good reasons.
Kiteboard 101 will give you the skills you need to safely kiteboard. Taking lessons with an experienced instructor is a must. The wind and water are calling.
Totally new to kiteboarding? Get a 2009 Sensei 2m trainer kite and 1 hr intro to kiteboarding clinic including 1 hr of instruction for $150. Learn more about your trainer kite here!
Private lessons are recommended so you will never have to wait your turn. Group lessons are available and are a great source for learning valuable insights and cheep to share but only recommended if you are planning to learn with your kiteboarding partner for $30 per extra person per hour (limit two person total)
Kiteboard 101 promises to provide the best kiteboard lessons at the lowest price. If you find lessons for less give us a call. We start teaching you all the techniques you need starting from where you are at and then move as quickly as you learn.
* Canceling a lesson must be done 24 hr prior to the confirmed lesson or a $50 fine will be charged to the following session.
Lesson Plan and Prices
Trainer Kite and 1hr clinic $150
First Lesson: Land lesson using the real gear!
- 2 hours of private instruction $120 ($60 each additional hour)
- Before we can get you out in the ocean launching 40 foot airs we need to learn to fly kites
- Learn about the equipment
- Rig, launch, fly, land, and take down a kite
- Read location, wind direction, wind speed, and begin to formulate an understanding of the mechanics involved in flying kites
- Power zone
- Walk through each of the kite maneuvers necessary to kiteboarding
Second Lesson: Drag
- 2 hours of private instruction $400 ($200 each additional hour)
- Mid terms: I hope you spent time doing your homework and studying for this test because you can not move on until you have mastered your new skills
- Time to go for a drag, no really its allot more fun than it sounds
- Body surfing across mission bay
- Jet ski assisted lessons will keep us in touch every step of the way
- Develop the skills to bodysurf upwind, self rescue, and water relaunch your kite.
Third Lesson: Board skills
- 2 hours of private instruction $400 ($200 each additional hour)
- Final Exam: prove that you have perfected your kite skills
- With a board strapped onto your feet we do all the kite techniques you learned on the land and discover board skills

- Exit Exam: Personal confidence and instructors approval to rig, launch, ride, land, and purchase your own equipment.

What to Bring
1. Proper attire: Land lessons get a little dirty so wear some older jeans and layer up because it can get cold. Tennis shoes are a must and don’t forget the sunscreen. In order to get in the water you must have your own wetsuit and wetsuit boots are highly recommended.
2. Print, Complete, and Bring the Waiver to your first lesson.

4. All the kiteboarding gear is provided for your lesson but if you have your own gear might as well learn about all those bells and whistles so bring it along.
Location
We teach lessons in San Francisco. Lessons start on the sands of Ocean Beach and progress to Coyote Point boat ramp where you ride a huge downwinder from coyote point to the San Mateo-Hayward bridge assisted by jetski for an easy ride upwind.
The bay has great winds most consistent during the summer and always has flat water. Experience the thrill of kiteboarding today!
